The walk to Cola de Caballo is one of the great day hikes in the Ordesa Valley, where the Arazas River runs beneath enormous limestone walls. From Pradera de Ordesa, the trail follows the river through forest and past a string of waterfalls. Then the valley widens at the Circo de Soaso, a striking natural amphitheatre, before the path reaches the cascade. The out-and-back route is about 18 kilometres, with new scenery unfolding through the day.

Follow the Arazas River
Along the way, the Cascada de Arripas and the stepped cascades of Gradas de Soaso turn the river into a sequence of stops and viewpoints. The valley route is the natural choice for a first visit, with the landscape changing from shaded forest to open mountain scenery. The Senda de los Cazadores and Faja de Pelay make a higher, steeper circuit for experienced hikers and are a different outing to plan on their own.
Access from Torla
Access to Pradera de Ordesa is restricted during selected busy periods, when a shuttle runs from Torla. At other times, private vehicles can drive up while spaces remain. Check the park’s access information and the shuttle’s last return for your date before setting out.
View in GoExploringThe path through the valley is gentler than the high-level route, but its length makes for a full day on foot. If you would rather take a shorter walk, the forest and waterfalls offer plenty to enjoy before the Circo de Soaso. For more ideas, explore our Spain hiking guide.
