Choose a Mount Fuji trail before reserving a hut or transport. Yoshida and Fujinomiya start on different sides of the mountain, with separate approach journeys and entry arrangements. Check that your booking is valid for the trail you intend to use.
As of 17 October 2026, the official climbing website states that the 2026 climbing season has ended and summit trails are closed. Plan for a climb during the open season once that year's rules are published.

Use the official trail descriptions to compare the walks up and down, along with hut locations. Yoshida is the usual starting point for many first-time visitors; Fujinomiya has a shorter approach on foot, but shorter distance does not automatically mean an easier climb.
Consider where you will sleep before the climb and where you need to go afterward. Allow enough rest when arranging transport, and keep the return destination with your trail details.
Check the rules for the prefecture and trail you select. The Shizuoka-side notices cover Fujinomiya, Subashiri and Gotemba; Yoshida has its own arrangements. Check the dates and fees, along with entry restrictions, for the season of your climb.
Reserve a mountain hut separately where needed. Confirm your arrival time and meals, and read the cancellation conditions. Keep copies of the hut confirmation and entry documents offline. Ask your provider which parts of the process it handles.
The map mission below follows the Yoshida Trail.
View in GoExploringAllow time to rest instead of rushing overnight from the fifth station to reach sunrise. Carry warm clothing and rain protection; a comfortable temperature below the mountain says little about conditions above.
Before starting, agree when the group will assess whether to continue. Allow for stopping and getting help if someone becomes unwell, even if that means turning back before the summit.
Confirm the name of the fifth station on every booking. Save your return bus details and allow for a slower descent when booking onward travel, especially a flight.
Our Japan hiking guide has other walks to compare when Fuji is out of season. Before paying for a future climb, return to the official website for that season's opening dates and trail-specific requirements.
