Santorini’s caldera walk links villages perched along the rim of a sunken volcano. From Fira, the path passes through Firostefani and Imerovigli before reaching Oia, with the dark volcanic cliffs dropping to the sea below. The route gives you time to see the island beyond its famous viewpoints: whitewashed lanes, quiet stretches between villages and an ever-changing view across the caldera. Walk all the way to Oia or choose a shorter section and turn back when you’re ready.

Choose your direction
Starting in Fira takes you north through Firostefani and Imerovigli to Oia. It is a natural choice if you want to finish among Oia’s lanes or watch the evening light there. Walk in reverse if you would rather end in Fira, where onward transport and dinner plans may be simpler. Either direction brings the villages and caldera into view one step at a time.
From village lanes to open trail
The route shifts from paved village lanes to rougher dirt and gravel, rising and falling along the caldera edge. There is little shade, but the open views make the exposed stretches part of the experience. Wear shoes suited to uneven ground and bring water, especially in the warmer months.

Check the current KTEL Santorini bus information for your chosen finish point. A taxi or pickup gives you another option, particularly if you plan to stay in Oia for sunset.
Fira, Firostefani and Imerovigli make it easy to enjoy part of the caldera walk without going all the way to Oia. Check the weather before choosing the more exposed sections.
