Rhine Falls: boat to the Middle Rock or views from shore?

Rhine Falls at Neuhausen am Rheinfall.

Feel the power of the Rhine Falls from the water, climb the Middle Rock or take in the spectacle from riverside viewpoints near Schaffhausen.

The Rhine Falls make the power of the river impossible to ignore. Water surges over a 23-metre drop, breaking around the rocks in a cloud of spray and sound. A boat brings you close to the current and gives you a choice: land on the Middle Rock for a dramatic climb to a platform above the falls, or stay on board for a shorter cruise. From the riverbanks, the force and breadth of the cascade are just as striking from a little farther back.

Choose how to experience the falls

The Rock Experience includes a boat ride and a short stop on the rock, where more than 100 steps lead to a viewing platform above the falls. Looking down into the churning water from the rock makes the scale of the river feel immediate. It is not recommended for children under 1.2 metres or people with walking or stair-climbing impairments, and dogs are not allowed. Choose a round-trip cruise if you want to experience the falls from the water without the climb; shore viewpoints are another option.

Boat departures and viewpoints

The Rock Experience departs from Schlössli Wörth. If you are coming from the Schloss Laufen side, the operator directs visitors to cross by ferry first. Boat tours run seasonally, so check the departure point and schedule for your date before booking. Whichever option you choose, allow time to see the falls from more than one angle; the water feels different from the boat, the rock and the shore.
